Almost July!!! A little writing practice about Real conditionals

Days go by, we're almost in July and I can assure I still feel it was one month ago when I wrote something in this blog. Some people say this feeling of time flying is something that adults perceive not just because we're busier than kids (in a way), but because we're unconsciously comparing the period of time we are living, like our present, with the period of time we have already lived. And this could be understood as if I'm comparing the week that just finished, with the total amount of weeks that I've lived before that one, thus, I felt last week lasted nothing. And the same with months, and years. As time goes by, obviously there are more lived days accumulated. In comparison, kids don't have the same feeling, because they have lived lesser than their parents.  Now, the point is that I still can't figure out how to add some vocabulary and grammatical structures to my actual vocabulary, I just don't use it, I´m not sure how to put them into my long-t...

April's #StoryTellingChallenge: A Scar

Image
I remember it was Sunday afternoon, close to 4:00pm maybe and everybody resting or having a good time, preparing mentally for what's coming the incoming week. I was a student at the University by that time, It was 2006 if I'm not wrong and was on my 6th semester, and I had a girlfriend who lived in another city, 2 hours from mine, so both traveled whenever we could to spend the weekend at the other's place. So that weekend she was staying at mine, she was taking a shower before leaving, while I was trying to fix a connection problem with my dial-up modem, you know, the old type that would make weird noises while establishing a connection, it's not that ADSL modem wouldn't exist in Venezuela at that time, It's just that It wasn't available in my neighborhood. After checking the wires, I'm looking to one of the connectors, and as I look closer I notice that some copper wires slipped out of the connector, It was poorly finished, so I had nothing else to do ...

February. An update of the learning and practicing journey.

I know I said I was gonna to write and publish here, up to 3 times a week short stories about anything I wanted. It was a fantastic idea on how to push myself to practice something I always leave behind (and maybe everyone does It) when I start to think on the specific things I've to work on when it comes to learning English. Now, I believe the point here is that at the beginning of January when I put some thoughts on my study plan I was still on vacation, and maybe I made a bad estimate of the time some other regular activities need, but I do know that I wasn't taking into account the fact that people get tired, physically and mentally during the day. Let alone the fact that each day may be different than the previous one, You might get out on time from work or not, You might run out of something You didn't notice yesterday, or suddenly You remember that urgent thing You should've done about a week ago, or just to balance things You decide to I think by now the idea is...

Getting back to Work

I've been pretty busy since last week. Last Friday, there was an important failure at a customer's facilities. The failure was such that there was a blackout, so the entire facilities went black. I sent a technician from my team to check and eventually, solve the problem, and thanks God, that's the way it was. He had been working there since 8:30pm and He was done by the 11:30pm. By that time, the customer ask us to carry out some test to check the system, and everything was operating as It should, but right now, the customer still has its doubts about what really happened, which is still under investigation. Let's see what happens.

Short Christmas Story

When I was a kid, there was a time I lived with my parents in Tarapio, a neighbourhood, about 25 min in bus from my maternal grandmother's house. In December, my cousins and I used to stay some days there. We had such a happy days back there. We would play and eat until we get tired.  The house was built next to a river, and I remember that one time We played until it was so late that we would jump in the river from one rock to the other, because We thought It would get so dark, We would have to set fire to a stick or something to see the path and keep insects (and possibly snakes) away from Us. I thought at some point "If only I had brought matches", but luckily, there was no need for anything, we were closer than we remembered and We got to the house in a blink.

About yesterday, Friday January 8th

I friend of us came last night to visit Us. We've been planning this gathering for three weeks before new year's eve but one thing came up, and then another one, and finally We could arrange the reunion for yesterday. So, We hadn't seen each other since my wife's birthday party in March, just before the lockdown or confinement started. We used to dance together, in a academy where we learned dancing salsa and bachata, at a beginner's level of course, and we all connected in a friendly way. So after the lockdown started, We (actually my wife a lot more than me) kept contact through whatsapp and said Hi from time to time. He brought Us some gifts, a whisky bottle which I ended up preparing some ¨"Old fashioned" cocktails with, delicious btw; and a picture frame which We loved even more! And now my wife and I have to look for a new picture to place in it. We spent the night catching up about family and work. He had to leave early because the national curfe...

Getting rid of things, one step at the time

Do You have belongings that You don't need any longer? Or simply, that You don't use anymore? Audio I've been thinking about this idea of going into minimalism more and more, ever since I watched this documentary on Netflix about precisely, Minimalism. And this concept isn't about living without nothing, and getting rid of everything you own just because it's bad or useless to own things, actually, It does have to do with living with what is needed, with those things that make You happy, but above all and most importantly, It's about You keeping the things that really serve a purpose. And We all have things that have already served their purpose. Those old books you read about 3 years ago, inside the desk drawer or in the shelf, and that even when You still like them, You are not willing to read them again; Those old jeans, shoes, that are still in good condition; those things You hid in some drawer and You have  having been just completely forgotten but that yo...
